One of the more beautifully designed cars in Jaguar's range, the XK boasts to possibly become one of the most cherished coupes in modern times. The detailed design of the car makes every angle look just right, with a sleek body that fits the name of the car perfectly. The XK has a particular construction that keeps the weight down and the dynamics up. Buyers will be hard pressed to find anything wrong in the design of this particular model.
Though not designed to be a sports car, the XK can pack a punch when driven to high speeds and has that 'sports car feel'. The lightweight body of the car balances the steering perfectly, making an amazing experience whilst driving which is great for those more competitive drivers who like to screech their tyres a little.
The XK is filled with extras and technological gems, including the choice of quality sound systems. Six-speaker systems and an alternate CD, WMA and MP3 player. When it comes to safety and security, the XK is well secured. It is fitted with a Thatcham approved alarm system, door protection and tilt-sensing to detect the vehicle being moved or jostled about. The steering lock is automatically engaged when the car is locked to dissuade thieves.
The XK also has a number of standard safety features including airbags and stability control devices, as well as a deployable bonnet that lifts up when impact with a pedestrian that cannot be avoided is sensed.
The older model, whilst not as fast or as powerful as the most recently made 'revamped' XK, is easier and cheaper to run when looking for a second hand car. The XK can be from £5,000 up to £12,000 for models over ten years old, but for recent models the price climbs intensely. 2005 Models onwards can climb from about £11,000 to £64,000 depending on how recently the car was made. That coupled with the fact that despite being pretty, the XK is definitely not one of the most economic cars out there, barely managing a weak 16mpg in built up traffic and a mildly better 24mpg on the motorway.
The sheer price of the car when looking at newer models will stop a new driver then and there. The expenses of keeping up with an XK, as well as the fuel costs and insurance are too high for a new driver to be able to afford. Plus, the XK's engine is a little too powerful for novice drivers to deal with.
Again, the issue with the price of the car would be in hand when looking to buy a second hand car for a family. Smaller families would be better suited to the XK if they can afford the upkeep of it, but not as a primary vehicle, more as a casual secondary vehicle. The Used Jaguar XK is better suited to those couples who collect cars and have a lot of money to spare, or for those who are competitive drivers who like powerful engines.
